About the Volunteer Opportunity
Are you passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of your community? Are you motivated to make a difference? The Diabetes UK Live Well volunteer will provide short-term assistance to individuals. They will help individuals access local community-based activities and services, that support better diabetes management and risk. The Live Well Champion will build knowledge and understanding of the condition and encourage those affected by diabetes to make the appropriate lifestyle changes.
What you will be doing
- Connect people with community activities and services that promote healthy lifestyle changes
- Help run the Diabetes UK Live Well Hubs
- Signpost people to local health and wellbeing initiatives and groups
- Promote Diabetes UK resources, including the Learning Zone, Diabetes UK website and Diabetes UK social media platforms
- Provide feedback of diabetes services within your community
- Run events such as talks or awareness stands to raise awareness of Diabetes UK and diabetes
The skills you need
- Passion for raising awareness of diabetes in your community
- You want to speak to people about how they can live better with diabetes
- Enjoy speaking and listening to people
- Make sure you keep personal details or information private
- Respect other people’s cultures and understand their cultural values
- You are flexible, able to work alone and as part of a team
- Able to support the work of Diabetes UK and talk about us in a positive way
- Able to attend all briefings and trainings related to your role
