About the Volunteer Opportunity

Our volunteers will provide support to the staff, children and families working in our Developmental Programme for 2-3 Years Old. We are looking for volunteers with a passion for making a difference to a child’s life and supporting their learning as well as helping children promote their independence. Some of your activities will include planning and organizing small group activities, setting up the group and clearing away afterwards. This will include serving snack as well as ensuring the resources/room is ready for the children coming into the setting. You will also be assisting the children to develop their independence thus improving their self esteem and self confidence. You will also be a positive role model at all times to the children, adhering to the policies and procedures of Gold Community Partnership Surestart.

We are looking for volunteers, with a passion for making a difference in children’s lives, a fun and approachable attitude and an ability to engage young people in worthwhile and enjoyable activities.

About the Organisation

Surestart is a government funded initiative specifically for families with children under 4 who live in the top 25% disadvantaged wards in Northern Ireland.

Research has shown that when children who have access to early intervention and positive play experiences enjoy more positive outcomes in adulthood.

The Aims of Surestart are to:-

  • Improve the ability to learn by encouraging stimulating play, improving language and communication skills and by the early identification and support of children with additional needs.
  • Improve health by supporting parents in caring for children and promoting children’s health and development.
  • Improve social development by supporting the early relationships between parents and children, enhancing positive parenting skills and early intervention and support of children with emotional, learning or behavioural needs.
