About the Volunteer Opportunity

Help the Mid Ulster Pride Committee realise their goal of bringing Belonging, Love, and Celebration to the Mid Ulster Area.

Mid Ulster Pride need some General Assistants to help make our third Pride event a success.

As a General Assistant you’ll help the Committee set up the venue, run our Information and Merchandise stands, and generally keep the event running as smoothly as possible, along with assisting in some clean up at the end of the day.

You’ll be helping bring a positive experience of LGBTQ+ representation to the Mid Ulster Area. On the day there will be some training and refreshments before the Parade participants and the public arrive. They have a few different stations that you might want to help out in, and you won’t be working the whole day, so don’t worry about that. They’ll organise a rota so that people don’t get too overworked and you are able to enjoy the whole experience and make it memorable.

The event takes place in the Cookstown Community Centre, volunteers are expected to arrive at 11am for refreshments and some training.

About the Organisation

Once upon a time, a long time ago, in a land far, far away (the rural community of Dungannon January 2020) – in an interview with a local paper a young man expressed one simple dream. It went on to start a movement.

It was his dream that he might one day participate in a Pride parade – a simple desire of equality taken for granted by so many and his words were published in a local newspaper. This simple wish pulled a heart string in one incredible man who, were it not for his tireless efforts and devotion to our cause, the birth of Mid Ulster Pride may never have happened.

Reverend Andrew Rawding organised Mid Ulster’s first ever Pride march in the autumn of 2020, against a backlash from some Christians and Churches across Northern Ireland, in the midst of a Pandemic and without the assistance of outside help or influence from established organisations.

Mid Ulster Pride was completely home grown and created from nothing by a team who together marched down Cookstown High Street in the face of adversity and active persecution. They bravely stood up for what’s right and today have grown into what we hope will evolve into the biggest Pride event in Ireland.
